Your new door hardware includes a rail with pre-drilled holes for mounting the door to the wall studs. Your wall studs may not align perfectly to where the rail needs to be mounted, therefore we recommend mounting your new door rail to a mounting board to assure it is installed securely to the wall studs. By fastening the wood mounting board directly to your wall studs, you will provide a sturdy platform on which to attach your door rail.
The mounting board is made from pine.

Architectural Radiance sliding barn doors are a great way to enhance the appearance of any room in your home or office. Helping you select a door you will be delighted with is our #1 goal. Many common questions are addressed below. If you have additional questions you can contact us at 574-780-6285. We are here to help, Monday - Friday, 8a - 5p Eastern Time.
Selecting the Right Door
Architectural Radiance only offers 2-panel doors, which is the sturdiest and most durable style. Our doors are hand-crafted and built one at a time. And we take pride in the high-quality finishes that we offer. It is important that you know what finish you are looking for before placing your order. Our barn doors are not returnable. With that in mind we encourage you to order a finish sample kit in advance of placing your door order. You may apply the cost of your samples to your subsequent door order which makes your samples free with order.
Measuring for the Correct Size Door
Width: A sliding barn door should be wider than the door opening itself, and normally this overlap is at least 4” (2” on each side). This overlap helps to block light and sound, and provides privacy. Example: the door opening is 32” – select a door that is at least 36” wide.
Height: As a rule, the height of the door should be 2” more than the door opening. Remember that when you install the door, it will be ½” off the floor to allow it to glide freely.
Do I Need a Header Board?
Yes! A header board is essential to a safe and secure door installation. The header board attaches to the vertical studs in your wall (usually 12” apart, but not always) The track itself is bolted onto the header board. You order a header to match the finish of your door, or unfinished if you prefer to paint the board to match the wall.
Selecting the Right Hardware
We are proud to offer the Leatherneck brand of door hardware – made in the USA with unmatched quality and durability. Your door will come with a complete kit for properly installing your new door. You can chose from two series:
-The Flat Track Lite Series: rated to 200 lbs. and featuring smooth and quiet Delrin rollers. These have a smaller hanger.
-The Flat Track Premium series: our top-of-the-line series with beautiful details and our broadest selection. Premium series is rated for doors up to 400 lbs.
Either series will work perfectly with Architectural Radiance doors.
How long should my track length be?
Based on the width of the door your order, we will automatically select the right track length you need.
How much clearance do I need for my hardware?
Different hardware styles require different clearances, If you’re ever in question please call in. Most of our Flat Track systems with a solid 3" wheel require 7.5" from the top of door (not the top of opening) to the ceiling to allow it to mount and roll without obstructions. The 4.5" spoked wheels on the Flat Track require 10" of clearance. Flat Track systems with exposed wheel hanger styles (where the hanger doesn't roll over the top) require 6.5" from the Top of Door to ceiling.
Which stop should I select?
Both Light and Premium series kits include door stops, which mount to the ends of the rail itself. The optional Slide Stop is an adjustable stop is used to affix the stop at any point on the track, rather than being restricted to where your lag bolts fix to studs. The slide stop is available for Premium series hardware only. Please see our Accessory list for details and prices.
Do you pre-drill the door for hardware?
Because every installation is unique, we do not pre-drill for hardware. All door have a narrow groove cut along the bottom edge of the door to accommodate the floor guide, if you choose to install one.
What is the weight rating on my hardware?
The Lite Series is rated up to 200 lbs. The Premium Series is rated to 400 lbs.
Is it possible to order a door finish sample?
Yes! You may order samples here. This is important as computer monitors do not show colors accurately. Additionally, returns are not accepted on barn doors as they are custom-made per each order. After receiving your samples, choose the door and finish you want, then place your order. Your sample cost will be credited toward your order, making your samples free!
Can I order a door without hardware?
Yes, however we recommend you order hardware when ordering a door, for two reasons: 1) We offer high quality Leatherneck brand, made in the USA; 2) We can make sure that your hardware selection is right for your door.
What if I don't find exactly what I want?
If you don’t see exactly what you are looking for, contact us at (574) 780-6285 to discuss custom designed doors.
Can I order an unfinished door?
Yes. If you wish to stain or coat the door yourself, select that option when ordering.
Can the door be installed in an exterior location?
Architectural Radiance doors are designed for interior use only.
How difficult is it to install a door?
Proper installation of a door requires two people, with a reasonable level of DIY skills and tools. Please see the Leatherneck door installation videos and information in the product tabs which will give you an idea of the tools and techniques you will need. An experienced installer can complete the process in about 2 hours. However, if it’s your first door, allow more time. Also, you can use the services of a local handyman.
